Seeking Video Card for G4
May 5th, 2007 | Published in Personal | 6 Comments
Anyone in the USA with a spare video card that will work in an Apple G4, please email me if you would like to sell or give it away. I am willing to pay of course, however I don’t want to pay a lot, as I only really need it to load Ubuntu onto it and run it as a server. Thanks in advance.

(Saw this via Planet Ubuntu.)
I’d suggest buying a Radeon 9200 (not an SE or 9250 edition) from eBay and flashing it with a Mac video BIOS. I’ve not done it myself, but suspect that will be your most cost-effective way to buy a compatible card — the Mac edition cards are still selling at $90 on eBay (perhaps there’s a business to be had in reselling PC Radeons flashed to Mac!).
Hope that helps.

I don’t need a Radeon really. One of the inexpensive rage cards would be great. I hate Ebay with a passion as people lower the prices on the hardware but jack up the shipping charges. If worse comes to worse I will probably just buy one of the cards from ebay. Do I need Windows to use that flashing utility? I hope not, as I don’t have access to Windows like that, it isn’t allowed in my house

Why is it that you need a video card? A headless install of Ubuntu is doable.

I am going to do a headless install, but I still need graphics in order to do that
