…and today this image.
Yesterday Linspire announced their deal with Microsoft. Of course which many of you know, but today I wanted to read their forums to see what people had to say, and on my way in I saw that image. I truthfully find it distasteful, as I am sure you probably know why. 4 partners, 3 of them proprietary in their ways, bunched together with one that holds a free and open source software philosophy. To me it looks like Ubuntu supports all of those partnerships just by a single image. I know that isn’t true, but do the people who go to that website know that?
This is disturbing, and what I find appalling is that Kevin thinks that his deal with Microsoft will provide a “Better Linux.” How? WTF can a Microsoft deal do that will make Linux better? Take off the cloudy glasses already.
EDIT: Strike my P.S. to Mark for a reply. It seems he is currently traveling and to prevent any unneeded unrest, I am removing my P.S. to Mark, as I am sure he will respond in due time.

FUD is right, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Microsoft is one big bully and all I see is kids giving them the milk money.

I think I remember hearing talk about Ubuntu getting Linspire’s CNR technology. While the CNR would be a good addition for novice users (but synaptic is already pretty good), I hope Ubuntu didn’t have to get in bed with deal to get it.

Actually, I have read some interesting things about racketeering lately. Microsoft the next Soprano family? If so, I would definitely start my own family and get to whackin’!

I have used Linspire and Kubuntu and Kubuntu is far better because it doesn’t have CNR. I am sure that CNR is badly coded because it has never been able to install anything on my PC and it seems to take up huge amounts of system resources. I think that we (Ubuntu) should end the partnership because as far as I can see the deal for Ubuntu is just like buying and airline for the free peanuts. I moved from SUSE after the Novell deal and it looks bad when I say to my friends (as I try to convert them to Linux) that my OS is MS partnership free like Ubuntu is.

Why no Linux distributor is making a deal with Apple? If you see application popularity, then its iTune, right! Hmm. MS just wants to create FUD. It would have been interesting if Linspire made a deal with Apple.

I wonder why nobody talks badly about Zend signing a similar agreement with Microsoft. AFAIK Zend is the company that has been responsible for the design of recent PHP versions, but almost everybody who complains about the Novell, Xandros, Linspire, etc. deals is still using PHP without any comment…
