The only thing I want to say is look at the number of comments. He has proof that his comments are driving traffic to the site. Tolling on a forum or Usenet is one thing, he's doing it for money. Unfortunately you just helped him. Don't feed the trolls takes on a whole new meaning. I follow the general rule, if an article is titled "never x" or "x sucks " or "top ## reason (to OR not to) x" it's only purpose is to drive traffic.

@ dabaR: No I don't think it is bad, I just don't agree with the way he is getting his hits. There is no doubt that his writing is good as well, but ya like you said, he spreads FUD well, or at least attempts to. I really like your "Whenever there is a power shift.." line, nice catch there.

Dear Nixternal,

Is it a bad thing if I and many of the other readers of planet Ubuntu and/or your blog visit his web site and give him hits?

I can believe he gets paid, ya, he probably even has many readers. And his writing is pretty good, as excerpts posted by Ste show. He definitely spreads FUD well. Whenever there is a power shift there are people that are not very happy about losing their power, and that is all this is, really.

Sincerely,

dabaR

@ Craig: I am with you 100% on that. Their magazine is 99.9% Windows based now, with the word Linux used only once every 6 months. It is a shame, they used to be a good resource.

@ Ste: I have to admit, he could be a good writer, once he gets his head out of his arse. All 3 of his articles totally show you that he has 1) never installed Ubuntu (the YouTube reference in Part 2 gave that away), and 2) he has obviously not installed Linux (the X comments and the command line give that away). I will be the first to admit, I am biased. That is why I couldn't write a MS vs. Linux article. It would be hard for me to keep the curse words out starting from the first sentence :) Another thing that kills me about this guy, his one claim to fame for Vista is the stacking in Explorer. He talks about it in 2 or 3 articles as if it is so ingenious.

"Welcome to the wild, wacky world of Linux video settings where learning to recover from a malformed xorg.conf file is your price of admission to the big "open source" dance. "

"Bonus Tip: When fumbling around the cryptic Linux command line (the accepted way to fix most X11-related video maladies), use "nano/pico" - and not the indecipherable "vi" - to edit the xorg.conf file."

Priceless! This made my day ;-) . Greetings
