Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 1 Released
May 14th, 2009 | Published in KDE, Kubuntu, Release | 12 Comments
Just a quick note letting you all know that Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 1 has been released. If you are looking to contribute to an open source project, there is no better time than now. The Kubuntu team is looking for a few good contributors. We can always use supporters, documentation writers, packagers, developers, translators and more! If you are interested in contributing, I urge you to join #kubuntu-devel on irc.freenode.net.
Note: This is an alpha release, so it is not for the faint of heart, it is for those of you who are a bit crazy and like living dangerously. It is not for production use at all, and if you do use it for production use and get fired, it is not our fault!

Why all the distro advertisements on planetkde?
I follow planetkde because I like to learn about kde development (and kde developers), not that some random subpar distro has released an early alpha.

An ad is usually one of two things:
making you aware of something
pushing it at you
I’m always happy to be made aware of something.

@sandsmark – I apologise for pushing this to Planet KDE, I accidentally selected the KDE tag which puts my post there. Though there is nothing wrong with it being there either. No need to be disrespectful either with your “random subpar distro” comment. I would like to know why decided to comment on this post when you didn’t comment like this on any of the Arch posts? I am guessing you feel that Arch isn’t subpar with the rest of the distros right? I think that is a bit hypocritical.
@Amine27 – Yes, KDE 4.3 Beta1 will have packages for 9.04, watch the planet for updates as well as kubuntu.org.

@sandsmark – oh, and don’t come on here as a Chakra contributor and be a dick either, as I don’t want you spoiling my enjoyment of Chakra.

I want Kde 4.3 beta 1 for jaunty !!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

KDE 4.3 Beta 1 for Jaunty will be made available as soon as possible. The first plan of attack is massaging the packages and merging back-and-forth with Debian. Once all of that is done, they will go into Karmic, and just as soon as they work there, we will more than likely backport them to one of the PPAs for everyone to use. Keep an eye on my blog, Planet Ubuntu and Planet KDE, as well as kubuntu.org. Thanks for excitement and the patience!

Sorry if I was a bit rude, but it seemed that even the smallest kubuntu pre-release gets blown up on planetkde. That is probably not the case, but I tend to remember things that irk me
And sorry about the sub-par comment, but Kubuntu tended to have a rather second-rate feel over it (compared to plain Ubuntu, and for example OpenSuSE). But I haven’t used Kubuntu as my main distro in over a year, so I should probably just shut up
(I was also in a rather bad mood, but that’s not really an excuse for acting like an ass.)

@sandsmark – thanks, I apologize for being a bit edgy myself
Now get your arse back over to Arch and keep making it rock!

Would be really great if all those distros like kubuntu, chakra, pardus, pclinuxos joined forces and released the best KDE distro ever … It could be called KDE/Linux
Instead you guys fight with each other, that’s not healthy and doesn’t help KDE.
@Sandsmark:
Chakra support for 64bits is also “second-rate” , if not “third-rate” … That’s why I’m using kubuntu right now.
