Konsole Fonts

I have been using urxvt forever, and I have always loved using my Artwiz fonts with it. In Jaunty for some reason, getting the Artwiz fonts working correctly and without hogging resources was a bit of a pain. So I have decided to go back to the KDE terminal, Konsole, and actually found a really great font in the Ubuntu repositories. The name of the font is ttf-inconsolata. It is a really nice small font in Konsole and if you are editing code in Vim or Emacs, it is really nice. It is actually nice small and nice to the point where you don’t have to squint to see it, it is still legible at a decent distance. Here are a couple of screenshots to show it off:

If you have a groovy TTF font, or any other font that you use in your terminals, tell me what it is, and link me to a screenshot.

I prefer the standard Ubuntu monospace font, I think it’s DejaVu. For me it’s sharper and easier to read than Inconsolata. Although I must I agree that the latter one is a nice font.

Hmm… i like your irssi theme.. which one is it? Also your Terminal colors are nice…

My Irssi theme is a hacked up Madcow. I need to put it out there for people who want to use it. The console colors are the “Linux Colors” for KDE/Konsole. Also, there is a Dark Pastels color for Konsole, which may be the default now, that is really nice looking as well.

@Repabil – sorry, wasn’t ignoring you on that last comment. Ya, Kubuntu uses Bitstream and I wasn’t liking the monospace font and the same with DejaVu, only because I like a smaller font as I get more screen space then when doing work.

Looks cook, I did a side by side in vim for my needs. It’s not as nice as liberation mono imo. less bright/fuzzy and had to make it a bit larger to use. Liberation Mono I can use at 7pt, this one at 8pt.

The best font I’ve found so far is the incredibly good Terminus. I don’t know any other way to describe it other than simply “perfect”.

@Rick Harding – ya, after seeing your screenshots the Liberation Mono looks best in your case. I don’t know what it is, but Konsole has amazing font rendering. It is damn near impossible to get the same results in Vim or GNOME terminal, I have been trying.
@A Name – ya, I also like Terminus and is what I am using on my GNOME box as well.
@Angel Blue01 – I will have to check out Consolas, what I have seen in the screenshots thus far look really good, especially the one on a Mac that I just saw

I totally agree with A Name.
Terminus is juse THE font for terminals.

Droid Sans Mono is an excellent monospaced font, available under the Apache license. It’s in the Ubuntun repo’s as ttf-droid and comes with a complete family of similarly excellent variable spaced fonts, Droid Sans & Droid Serif.

Droid isn’t good for coding. Even the screenshot shows it. You hardly can see a difference between O and 0. Terminus is great. Hope it will get italics some day. And some more unicode…

I used to use MonteCarlo but what you see there is ProFont. Great font IMO and you get a lot on screen (on xterm).

@Dion – THANK YOU! I couldn’t remember the name of that font. I used it a long time ago and it was my favorite term font in the late 90s and early 00s. Though I noticed you suffer the same RGB issue I did, thanks to Nuno up there showing me the way

Some fonts don’t kern well, monospace is my best font (allows bold, looks nice), but what ever reads the best.

I remember somewhere in the KDE 3.5.x cycle that Luxi Mono became the default font for Konsole. Now whether this was a Gentoo thing or a KDE thing, I don’t know but it really looked great and I used it all the time. But after a while (somewhere around 3.5.6 or so), it disappeared from Konsole and eventually wouldn’t even load–the only way I could get it back was by editing a configuration file by hand and forcing it to use Luxi Mono (I don’t know if it’s because Konsole/KDE doesn’t recognize Type 1 monospace fonts, but there you have it). It would be nice to get it back into circulation as I still prefer to use it for Konsole. At least I can still use it in Kate.

Inconsolata is great except that it has no TRUE bold and italics. Maybe someone will design its true bold/italics version in the future:)
