Kubuntu Plymouth Theme
March 28th, 2010 | Published in Kubuntu | 16 Comments
Tonight I quickly threw together a Plymouth theme for Kubuntu. I borrowed the ubuntu-logo theme and edited it to fit Kubuntu better by changing the background colors, the color of the progress dots, and added a glowing Kubuntu logo. The logo is temporary as we await our new branding logos. As soon as we get that, we will put those in, and tweak the theme as needed.
I am aware of the clipped edges in the following screenshot, and this will be fixed in subsequent releases.

Hi Richard. I like the new plymouth theme but I wish the next kubuntu had disabled by default the kde splash-screen, I use kubuntu on my desktop and I always disable it, kde starts faster.
Anyway, I can’t wait to see the new logo.

Dude, looks sweet!
We should ensure we get the new logo sorted for Kubuntu: do you know what the current status of that is? If you are unsure, let me know and I will see if I can unblock it.

@Jono – for one, the letter “K” isn’t complete, don’t even know if it has been started. As for the logo part, the Kubuntu Council is voting on that this Wednesday. There are like 10 different versions to choose from, so they will vote on that.

Looks awesome! Now all we need is a KDE startup screen just like it with the dots representing each component in the environment – that would be a FLAWLESS VICTORY!
(please excuse the shouting)

@ Mourinho
Since you think the temporary lack of a K is hilarious, you’d probably die if you knew that most of the other letters in that font are not complete, including a, b, c, d, e, f…. etc, so I won’t tell you that. …oops

freakin’ pingback spam.
Yeah, the only letters somewhat complete right now are ‘ubnt’
And they supposedly aren’t complete yet either.

Is there an easy way of testing a plymouth theme while developing, without restarting? Does it work in a nested X server or in some other way without disturbing the current session?
